Royal Blind: This charity has just launched a major appeal for the redevelopment of its school at Craigmillar Park, Edinburgh. Included in the plans, to be carried through in the next few years, are residential and sporting facilities. Provision will be made for children with multiple disabilities. Towards the substantial costs of the proposed works an award over three years of £150,000 has been made.

RNLI: Regular training for existing and new members of lifeboat crews is needed to equip them with the skills to save lives at sea while keeping themselves safe. For the training of the crew at Invergordon an award of £24,280 has been made.

St Andrews’ University: Through the new Interdisciplinary Medical Research Institute research into the more intractable human diseases is to be undertaken. To fund the purchase of a microscope for use in connection with research into Alzheimer’s disease an award of £50,000 has been made.

A project to provide vulnerable young people with a more secure base from which they can develop self-worth and discover their innate abilities has been awarded £72,000 over three years.

Visibility: This Glasgow-based charity’s successful work with ex-service men and women suffering from neurological sight loss (sight loss or impairment following brain injury or stroke) is to be rolled out for the benefit of a wider group of individuals so affected in the West of Scotland. An award of £60,000 over three years has been made.
